Included, not extra

Tanning in Port Huron, included with the gym

A Level 4 lay-down bed and a Level 5 stand-up, in their own room off the gym floor, come with every membership at Blue Water Fitness. There is no separate tanning package, no second card on file and no upsell at the counter. It is the same $25 a month, and a $10 day pass includes the beds too.

First time in a Level 4 or 5 bed? Come during desk hours and we'll set your session.

What we run

A Level 4 lay-down and a Level 5 stand-up

One of each, in their own room off the gym floor.

Level 5 stand-up

The stronger of the two. Fast, no contact with the acrylic and easiest on your back — shorter sessions with even coverage.

Best for: Anyone short on time or who tans unevenly lying down. It is the stronger unit, so let the desk set your first sessions.

Level 4 lay-down

Longer, gentler sessions and a deeper base. The one people pick when they want to lie down for a few minutes and think about nothing.

Best for: Building a base before a trip, a wedding or a show, once the desk has set your session length.

The tanning room

Both units are in their own carpeted room, off the gym floor and away from the racks. “Very clean” is the phrase that shows up most in our reviews, and we would like to keep it that way.

Best for: Everyone. Nobody tans out on the floor.

Level 4 vs Level 5

Start shorter than you think you need to

The level is a strength rating. A higher level means stronger lamps and a shorter session for the same result — a Level 5 bed does in minutes what a low-level bed takes most of half an hour to do. That is the appeal, and it is also why the single most common mistake is treating the first visit like the tenth.

Come to the desk before your first session and we will set the length for your first few visits. Lotion is at the counter — the beds work considerably better with it and considerably worse without, and dry skin is most of why a first session disappoints people.

Before your first session

  • Ask the desk to set your first session length
  • Use lotion — we stock it at the counter
  • Eyewear every time, no exceptions
  • Leave a day between your first few sessions
  • Tell us about any medication that affects light sensitivity

Paying a salon by the package?

The beds are in the twenty-five. So is the gym.

If you already tan, you are already paying for it somewhere. Here the beds are inside the membership, and the membership is the whole building.

Day pass

$10per visit

Buy one in the app any hour, use the beds, use the floor. Nothing to sign, nothing to cancel.

12-month, tanning in

$25a month

Unlimited beds, the whole floor, and an app that opens the door at 3am.

Month to month

$40a month

Same beds, same floor, no agreement. Stop the month you stop needing it.

Prom, spring break, a wedding, a show — if there is a date on the calendar, come in a few weeks early, start in the stand-up and build to it. The short passes exist for exactly that: a one-week pass is $20, a two-week pass is $30. Driving down from the north end? Tanning near Fort Gratiot.

Questions

Questions about tanning

Is tanning included with a Blue Water Fitness membership?
Yes. Level 4 and Level 5 tanning is included with every membership and pass — the $25-a-month plan, month to month, the week passes and the $10 day pass. There is no separate tanning package.
Can I tan at Blue Water Fitness without a gym membership?
Yes. A $10 day pass in the GymSwype app includes the tanning beds. If you are paying a salon by the package, a $25-a-month membership with the beds included usually costs less than the package alone.
What level tanning beds does Blue Water Fitness have?
One of each: the lay-down bed is Level 4 and the stand-up booth is Level 5. They are in their own room, off the gym floor.
Should I use the stand-up or the lay-down?
Ask the desk before your first session either way. The Level 5 stand-up is the stronger unit, with shorter sessions and nothing touching your skin; the Level 4 lay-down runs longer sessions. The desk sets your length for the first few visits on whichever one you use.
How long should my first tanning session be?
Shorter than you think. Level 4 and 5 beds are strong, and treating the first visit like the tenth is the most common mistake. Come to the desk before your first session and we will set the length for your first few visits. Leave a day between them.
Do you sell tanning lotion?
Yes, at the counter. The beds work considerably better with lotion and considerably worse without — dry skin is most of why a first session disappoints people.
Do I need eye protection?
Yes, every session, no exceptions. Eyewear is available at the desk. Tell us about any medication that affects light sensitivity before you tan.
